Audio Controls and Operation

Power Switch

The receiver is turned on and off by rotating the volume control knob at the counterclockwise end of travel. This switch has operating priority over all other electrical switches.

When the radio is switched On, the tuned frequency and hand will be displayed for approximately 6ve seconds followed by the time of day. Other annunciators may be displayed as defined for each operating mode.

Volume

The audio level is adjusted by rotating the volume control clockwise to increase or counterclockwise to reduce volume. Internally volume is adjusted in digital increments. As the control is rotated, volume changes will be smooth and dampened slightly as needed to minimize audible effects of the internal digital circuit control. Above five percent distortion, Dynamic Distortion Limiting will become active. At the most counterclockwise position (prior to switching Off the power switch), volume will be inaudible.

Balance

The balance control is used to adjust the relative volume in the left and right speakers. Counterclockwise rotation will strongly favor the left speakers. Clockwise rotation will strongly favor the right speakers. A detent identifies the center of rotation. Internally, balance is adjusted in digital increments.

When the knob is pressed in, it will physically latch relatively flush with the trimplate. To facilitate adjustment, the control knob may be pressed and released causing the knob to pop out.

Fade

The rotary fade control adjusts the relative volume in the front and rear speakers. Clockwise rotation strongly favors the rear speakers, and counterclockwise rotation strongly favors the front speakers. A detent identifies the center of rotation. Internally, front right balance is adjusted in digital increments.

When the knob is pressed in, it will physically latch relatively flush with the trimplate. To facilitate adjustment the control knob may be pressed and released causing the knob to pop out.

Five Band Equalizer

Five slide potentiometers control the audio frequency response. Each equalizer slide will have a mechanical detent at the centered position. Each control will be illuminated by a self contained light source.

Sliding a control up from the detent position will boost the audio gain for that frequency band. Sliding the control downward from the detent will reduce the audio gain for that frequency band. The equalizer band center frequencies are as follows: 60 Hz, 250 Hz, 1k Hz, 3.5k Hz and 10k Hz.

The gain for each equalizer band is adjustable in 11 steps of approximately 2 dB.

Loudness

The loudness feature provides bass boost at low volume control settings. This feature is automatic, and no user control is provided.
