Radio Clock Controls and Operation

The following features and controls are available when using the radio tuner.

Display Recall and Clock Setting - RCL Button

The clock is normally displayed when the tuner is operating, except during periods immediately following ignition-on, power-on and tuning or frequency recall operations. The clock is also displayed when ignition voltage is present and the radio is switched off.

If ignition voltage is off, the clock is displayed without backlighting.

The Recall (RCL) button is a momentary contact push switch which is incorporated with the volume control. It is activated by pressing and/or releasing the volume knob. It is used for the following functions:

^ Frequency recall: If the radio is on and the clock is displayed, frequency recall is activated after pressing and releasing the button.

NOTE: The display will automatically revert to clock after approximately five seconds.

^ Clock recall: If the radio is on and the frequency is displayed, clock recall is activated immediately upon pressing the button.

^ Clock set: Facilitates clock setting in combination with the TUNE rocker button - clock set is activated when the RCL button is held down with ignition on or off.

^ Ignition Off recall: Depressing RCL with the vehicle ignition Off will activate the display backlighting to display the clock for approximately 5 seconds.

The clock is always displayed when the RCL button is pressed down to facilitate clock setting. The time is adjusted by pressing and holding the RCL button followed by pressing the (left arrow) TUNE or TUNE (right arrow) button. RCL + (left arrow) TUNE will advance the hours. RCL + TUNE (right arrow) will advance the minutes. Seconds are reset to zero when minutes arc advanced.

After holding these buttons for longer than 0.5 seconds, the rate of advance during the clock set will be approximately four hours per second or eight minutes per second.

Band Switch AM/FM Button

This control is a momentary contact button. Pressing this button will alternately select the FM1, FM2 and AM radio frequency bands. When the new band is selected, the previously used frequency on that band will be tuned, and the frequency and band will be recalled into the display for approximately five seconds.

Manual Tuning

Manual tuning is accomplished using the TUNE momentary contact rocker button. The tuning direction is identified by left and right arrows (left arrow) and (right arrow)

Each time the TUNE (right arrow) button is pressed, the frequency will be incremented by one channel. Similarly, each press of the (left arrow) TUNE button will decrement the frequency by one channel.

When the (left arrow) TUNE (right arrow) button is held down approximately 0.5 seconds, audio will be muted and the tuning will slew in the desired direction at the rate of approximately 10 channels per second. When turning reaches the end of the frequency band, rollover to the opposite end of the band will occur, and turning will continue until the button is released.

During tuning, the frequency and band annunciator(s) are displayed. If a channel is manually turned which is stored in one or more of the reset memories, the "CH" annunciator and the lowest associated preset number in the current band will be displayed when the (left arrow) TUNE (right arrow) button is released. The preset number and "ST" and "CH" annunciators should not be displayed while the (left arrow) TUNE button is pressed during fast slew procedures.

The tuning buttons are also used in conjunction with the RCL button to set the clock.

Seek Tuning

Seek turning is accomplished using the momentary contact (left arrow) SEEK (right arrow) rocker buttons. The seek tuning direction is identified by left and right arrows (left arrow) and (right arrow). Pressing one of these buttons will cause the tuner to enter one of the (left arrow) SEEK (right arrow) operating modes.

When the SEEK (right arrow) button is pressed, the receiver will search for and stop on the next higher frequency station which exceeds the stopping sensitivity. Rollover will occur at the upper frequency band limit.

When the (left arrow) SEEK button is pressed, the receiver will search for and stop on the next lower frequency station which exceeds the stopping sensitivity. Rollover will occur at the lower frequency band limit.

During seek tuning, the frequency and band annunciator(s) will be displayed and other annunciators may be displayed. Approximately five seconds after the seek has terminated, the clock will again be displayed.

If no station is found in two passes through the band, seek is automatically terminated at the starting frequency. Seek may be cancelled by the user depressing the same (left arrow) SEEK (right arrow) button a second time. Seek may also be cancelled by pressing the alternate direction (left arrow) SEEK (right arrow) button. This will stop seek in the previous direction and begin it in the alternate direction.

Seek is also cancelled by the following actions, and tuning is returned to the frequency prior to start of seeking: Ignition or power switch cycle, or pressing of RCL button.

Pressing the bandswitch will cancel seek and return tuning to the frequency prior to the start of seeking. The new hand is selected.

Pressing a preset button will cancel seek and activate the preset function.

Station Presets 1 - 6

If a preset button is held for more than approximately one second, the current operating frequency is stored in the corresponding preset memory. If the preset button is pressed and released in less than approximately one second, the frequency stored in the corresponding preset memory will become the operating frequency.

Six FM1 channels, six FM2 channels, and six AM channels can be stored for future recall using the preset buttons. A station is stored as follows:

^ The station to be stored is tuned using the manual or seek tuning methods.

^ The desired preset button is pressed and held for more than one second to store the selected station. The receiver will be muted during the one second interval, and audio will return after the station is stored.

After the set function has been completed, pressing the preset button and releasing it within less than one second will tune the radio to the channel stored in the associated memory on the current band.

The frequency, band and preset number will he displayed when a preset is pressed and for approximately five seconds after the preset button is released, to he followed by the default clock display.

Scan - SCAN Button

This control is a momentary contact button. When the (left arrow) SCAN (right arrow) button is actuated the receiver will enter scan mode. The tuner will sequentially sample for approximately five seconds each of the FM or AM stations that exceed the stopping sensitivity. The stations will he sampled sequentially until the function is cancelled by the user by pressing the (left arrow) SCAN (right arrow) button again.

During scan tuning, the frequency, band annunciator(s) and as appropriate the "CH" annunciator, and preset channel number will he displayed.

When scan is cancelled, after approximately five seconds, the time of day will replace the frequency and band annunciator in the display.

Scan is cancelled by pressing the button a second time. If scan is cancelled prior to reaching the next station. tuning is returned to the most recent valid station or starting frequency.

Scan is also cancelled by the following actions, and turning is returned to the most rescent valid station or starting frequency: tape insertion, ignition cycle, power switch cycle, pressing of the RCL button, or initiation of CD or tape play modes by pressing TAPE or AX.

Pressing the AM/FM button will cancel scan and select the new band. Pressing TUNE, SEEK or preset button will cancel scan and execute the normal button function.

Compact Disc - AX Button

The momentary contact AX button function is available in radio mode only if optional remote CD changer discs are available and stopped as indicated by the display of the CD icon annunciator. In radio mode, pressing the AX button will cause the system to switch from radio mode to CD mode. The 'CD" annunciator will he displayed.

If the loaded CD changer is present, but is selected before initialization is completed, the "CD" annunciator will flash at the rate of approximately one cycle per second until initialization has. been completed (approximately 90 seconds).

If no discs are present (CD icon is not shown), the CD function is not available, and pressing the AX button will cause no action.

Tape - TAPE Button

The momentary contact TAPE button is used to activate the tape mode. The TAPE button function is available in radio mode only if a cassette tape is present and stopped as indicated by the display of the tape icon annunciator. In this condition. pressing the TAPE button will cause the system to switch from radio mode to tape mode.

EJECT Button

The momentary contact (arrow up) EJECT button is available in radio mode only if a tape cartridge is in the player and stopped. Pressing and releasing the (arrow up) EJECT button in this condition will cause the tape to be ejected with no other effect to radio operation. If no tape is present, this button has no function. and pressing this button will cause no action. The eject function is available when ignition is On or Off.
