Radio and Clock Controls and Operation

The following features and controls are available when using the radio tuner.

Display Recall/ Clock Set

The clock is normally displayed when the tuner is operating, except during periods immediately following ignition-on, power-on and tuning or frequency recall operations. The clock is also displayed when ignition voltage is present and the radio is switched off.

If ignition voltage is off, the clock is displayed without backlighting.

The Recall (RCL) button is a momentary contact push switch which is incorporated with the volume control. It is activated by pressing and/or releasing the volume knob. It is used for the following functions:

^ Frequency recall: If the radio is On and the clock is displayed, frequency recall is activated after pressing and releasing the button.

Note: The display will automatically revert to clock after approximately 5 seconds.

^ Clock recall: If the radio is On and the frequency is displayed, clock recall is activated immediately upon pressing the button.

^ Clock set: Facilitates clock setting in combination with the TUNE/SEEK rocker button - clock set is activated when the RCL button is held down with Ignition On or Off.

The clock is always displayed when the RCL button is pressed down to facilitate clock setting. The time is adjusted by pressing and holding the RCL button followed by pressing the (left arrow) TUNE/SEE or TUNE/SEEK (right arrow) button. (left arrow) TUNE/SEEK will advance the hours. TUNE/SEEK (right arrow) will advance the minutes. Seconds are reset to zero when minutes are advanced.

After holding these buttons for longer than 0.5 seconds, the rate of advance during the clock set will be approximately 4 hours per second or 8 minutes per second.

AM/FM Band Button

This control is a momentary contact button. Pressing this button will alternately select the FM1, FM2 and AM radio frequency bands. When the new band is selected, the previously used frequency on that band wilt be tuned, and the frequency and band will be recalled into the display for approximately 5 seconds.

Manual Tuning

Manual tuning is accomplished using the TUNE/SEEK rocker button. The tuning direction is identified by left and right arrows (left arrow) and (right arrow)

Each time the TUNE/SEEK (right arrow) button is pressed and released, the frequency will be incremented by one channel. Similarly, each press and release of the (left arrow) TUNE/SEEK button will decrement the frequency by one channel.

When the tuner reaches the end of the frequency band, rollover to tile opposite end of the band will occur.

During tuning, the frequency and band are displayed. Time of day is displayed approximately 5 seconds after (left arrow) TUNE/SEEK (right arrow) is released.

Seek Tuning

Seek tuning modes are activated by pressing and holding a (left arrow) TUNE/SEEK (right arrow) button for a period of time longer than one second. The seek tuning direction is identified by left and right arrows (left arrow) and (right arrow)

When the (left arrow) TUNE/SEEK (right arrow) button is held down longer than one second, the receiver will slew up in frequency while the button is held depressed. When the button is released, the receiver will search for and stop on the next higher frequency station which exceeds the stopping sensitivity. Rollover will occur at the upper frequency band limit.

When the TUNE/SEEK (right arrow) button is held down longer than one second, the receiver will slew' down in frequency while the button is held depressed. When the button is released, the receiver will search for and stop on the next lower frequency station which exceeds the stopping sensitivity. Rollover will occur at the lower frequency band limit.

During seek tuning, the frequency and band will be displayed. The ST indicator will be suppressed during seeking so that the ST indicator will not flash when bypassing weak stations. Approximately 5 seconds after the seek has terminated, the clock will again be displayed.

Pressing a (left arrow) TUNE/SEEK (right arrow) button during seeking will cancel seek and tune the radio in the appropriate direction from the frequency tuned at the time of cancellation. Seek will not be restarted if the button is held for more than one second. The button must be released and pressed again to tune or seek again.

Seek is also cancelled by the following actions, and tuning to the frequency prior to the start of seeking: ignition or power switch cycle, or pressing of RCL button.

Pressing the bandswitch will cancel seek and return tuning to the frequency prior to the start of seeking. The new band is selected.

Pressing a preset button will cancel seek and perform the normal preset function as described in the following paragraph.

Station Presets 1 - 6

The six preset buttons are momentary contact switches. If a preset button is held for more than approximately one second, the current operating frequency is stored in the corresponding preset memory. If the preset button is pressed and released in less than approximately one second, the frequency stored in the corresponding preset memory will become the operating frequency.

Six FM1 channels, six FM2 channels, and six AM channels can be stored for future recall using the preset buttons. A station is stored as follow's:

^ The station to be stored is tuned using the manual or seek tuning methods.

^ The desired preset button is pressed and held for more than one second to store the selected station. The receiver will be muted during the one second interval, and audio will return after the station is stored.

After the set friction has been completed, pressing the preset button and releasing it within less than one second will tune the radio to the channel stored in the associated memory on the current band.

The frequency and band will be displayed when a preset is pressed and for approximately five seconds after the preset button is reteased, to be followed by the default clock display.
