NOTE:
- If the engine tends to overheat, removal of the thermostat will adversely affect cooling efficiency.

- During extremely cold weather, -2O°F (-29°C) or colder, the engine's coolant temperature will decrease quickly when idling with the heater fan on high speed. Cool air may flow from the heater outlets.

- The fan control switch should be set at a slower speed position (fan speed I or II) to maintain the hottest air flow.

- The thermostat's rubber seat on the main poppet valve will deteriorate if it is contacted by oil.

If the rubber seat is found soft, or cracked:
- Determine the cause for oil in the cooling system.

- Flush the cooling system.

- Replace the thermostat cartridge.

- Fill the cooling system with a 50/50 solution of non-phosphate antifreeze and clean water.

IMPORTANT: If there are signs (deposits [white film/stains]) of coolant weepage on the pump flange or powertrain cradle below the weep hole, this does not mean the pump's seal has failed. Only replace the pump when there is evidence of leakage, such as coolant on the pump flange, powertrain cradle, ground or in the water pump area.
