Adding Oil / Oil Distribution

ADDING OIL
Adding oil to the A/C system should take place after recovery and before evacuation procedure.
1. Remove refrigeration discharge hose at the compressor pipe connection.
2. Pour the correct quantity of new Saturn compressor oil, or equivalent, into the discharge hose pipe.
3. Always lubricate new O-rings with clean compressor oil prior to assembly.
4. Properly connect hose to compressor with new O-ring. Add new oil to components before installation.

OIL CHARGE REQUIREMENTS
The A/C system requires the use of Saturn Compressor Oil, or equivalent. Refer to the Specifications section for system capacity. New oil quantities must be added to the system during component replacement, as follows:
1. Compressor: Remove, drain and measure oil. Drain replacement compressor. Add same amount of new compressor oil as was drained from removed compressor.
2. Evaporator: Add three ounces of new compressor oil.
3. Condenser: Add one ounce of new compressor oil.
4. Receiver-Dehydrator: Add one ounce of new compressor oil.

OIL LEVEL CHECK
1. To measure compressor oil, compressor must be removed from engine.
2. Install high and low side compressor oil drain adapter tool Nos. SA9149AC-6 and SA9149AC-5, or equivalents, on low and high side ports.
3. Drain oil into suitable clean container from high side port first and move compressor to a different position to remove all the oil possible. Turn compressor over to drain oil from low side port and rotate compressor drive plate in both directions to remove oil from compressor chambers.
4. Move compressor to different positions to remove all oil possible. turn compressor back to high side port to re-drain and back to low side port to remove maximum amount of oil. Stop oil draining when oil coming from low and high side ports becomes only drops. Measure oil removed and record.
5. Inspect extracted oil for color change from clear to dark brown or black. Also inspect oil for presence of foreign substances, such as metal filings. If oil extracted is found as mentioned, the receiver drier must be replaced.
6. Discard extracted oil properly and replace with specified quantity of new Saturn PAG compressor oil, or equivalent. Refer to Specifications/Mechanical/A/C Data Table. Capacity Specifications
