Before replacing a cluster gage the following steps most be followed to determine whether the suspect gage or the flex printed circuit hoard (PCB) is the cause of the complaint.

1. Perform all checks listed below for the suspect gage. Checks should be made across the cluster (removed from vehicle and face down on the anti-static mat) between the connector - cavities listed in the chart below. Fuel and coolant temperature gage checks should be made between the metal clips that connect the gage, to the flex PCB (labeled FUEL, TEMP, B+, and GND) and the specified connector - cavity.

2. The measured resistance for all checks should be equal to or less than 1.0 ohm.

3. If any of the resistance checks are above the specified range the back housing should be replaced instead of the suspected gage.

Below is a definition of the connector designation used in the table. Refer to Fig. 8.

C1 Flex PCB tabs which connect to the natural 18-way connector of the I/P harness

C2 Flex PCB tabs which connect to the black 18-way connector of the I/P harness

C3 Black 4-way connection crimped to the flex and connected to the tachometer circuit hoard

C4 Black 5-way connection crimped to the flex and connected to the speedometer/odometer circuit hoard
