Grounds

Before checking the ground circuit from the faulty component all the way to the ground stud, check the circuit from the splice pack to ground by testing some of the other subsystems grounded by the same splice pack. If the other subsystems function properly, it is most likely that the path from the splice pack to ground is good (or at least one of the paths is good with redundantly grounded splice packs).


I/P Splice Pack #1


Location: Taped to harness behind I/P cluster.


The systems grounded by I/P Splice Pack #1 are grounded redundantly with I/P Splice Pack #2 at ground point location D (I/P chassis ground). If one of the following systems is operating normally the ground circuit is most likely good.


^ Perf/Norm switch


^ I/P dimmer


^ Cruise module


^ Headlamp switch


^ Cigar lighter element


Check for OPENS/SHORTS.


Repair as needed.


If this component is good, go to the next item indicated on the "Complaint-Condition" chart.


I/P Splice Pack #2


Location: Taped to harness behind I/P cluster.


The systems grounded by I/P Splice Pack #2 are grounded redundantly with I/P Splice Pack #1 at ground point location D (I/P chassis ground). If one of

the following systems is operating normally the ground circuit is most likely good.


^ Fuel sensor


^ Park brake switch


^ Wiper motor


^ Radio


Check for OPENS/SHORTS.


Repair as needed.


If this component is good, go to the next item indicated on the "Complaint-Condition" chart.


Circuit 350C


Location: Connects I/P dimmer connector cavity A to I/P splice pack #1 cavity E.


Type: Black 22 gage wire


Function: This is the ground wire for the I/P dimmer.


Check for OPENS/SHORTS.


Repair as needed.


If this component is good, go to the next item indicated on the "Complaint-Condition" chart.


Circuit 35OY


Location: Connects I/P splice pack #1 cavity A to I/P chassis ring terminal ground.


Type: Black 18 gage wire


Function: This is the ground wire for I/P splice pack #1.


Check for OPENS/SHORTS.


Repair as needed.


Circuit 35OL


Location: Connects radio connector cavity 5 to I/P splice pack #2 cavity D.


Type: Black 16 gage wire


Function: This is the ground wire for the radio.


Check for OPENS/SHORTS.


Repair as needed.


If this component is good, go to the next item indicated on the "Complaint-Condition" chart.


Circuit 35OZ


Location: Connects I/P splice pack #2 cavity A to I/P chassis ring terminal ground


Type: Black 18 gage wire


Function: This is the ground wire for the splice pack #2.


Check for OPENS/SHORTS.
