Technician Safety Information



DISARMING

WARNING: The Sensing And Diagnostic Module (SDM) can maintain enough voltage to cause air bag deployment for up to ten seconds after the ignition switch is turned off and the battery is disconnected. Servicing the SIR system during this period may result in accidental deployment and personal injury.

1. Point front wheels straight ahead.
2. Turn ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove key.
3. Remove air bag fuse.
4. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) device from yellow 2-way SIR connector at base of steering column, then disconnect connector.
5. Remove upper trim panel extension located on the top righthand side of the instrument panel.
6. Remove upper instrument panel screw caps, located on the top center of the instrument panel, then remove upper trim panel attaching screws.
7. Lift upper trim panel off of instrument panel, then remove upper trim panel insulator.
8. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) device from yellow 2-way SIR connector, located on pigtail from passenger's inflator module.
9. Disconnect inflator module connector.

ARMING

1. Turn ignition key to the LOCK position and remove key.
2. Connect yellow 2-way SIR connector at base of steering column and install Connector Position Assurance (CPA) device to connector.
3. Connect yellow 2-way SIR connector at pigtail of passenger's inflator module and install Connector Position Assurance (CPA) device to connector.
4. Install upper trim panel insulator. Ensure all flaps are tucked in.
5. Install upper trim panel into clips at base of windshield.
6. Lower panel and push down at clip locations.
7. Install upper trim panel attaching screws, then the screw caps.
8. Install upper trim panel extension.
9. Install air bag fuse.
10. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, ensure air bag lamp flashes seven times, then remains off. If lamp does not operate as specified, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Testing and Inspection.
