Road Test Procedure

A thorough road test is necessary to determine if certain transaxle repairs are required and to verify that completed repairs are satisfactory. Not all malfunctions will illuminate an indicator lamp. Therefore, it is important to check the on-board diagnostic memory as part of the road test and to determine if vehicle performance appears normal. The following procedure is also necessary for resetting the transaxle control system's adaptive parameters. Proceed as follows:

1. Place shift mode switch in Normal position, then operate vehicle until transaxle fluid is warm (above 113°F).

2. Perform ten sets of 1-2,2-3 and 3-4 up-shifts at approximately 30% throttle, noting the following:

a. While coasting at 35 mph, slowly accelerate to 1/2 throttle so a 4-3 downshift will occur, then place selector lever in D3 position while coasting at 20 mph and accelerate to 75.

b. throttle to cause a 3-2 downshift.

d. Repeat preceding steps five times.

3. Drive vehicle so that each upshift and downshift occurs at least twice, then check PCM/TC memory for diagnostic trouble codes as described in this chapter.

4. Inspect Brake Transaxle Shift Interlock (BTSI) operation as follows:

a. With ignition switch in On position and brake pedal released, attempt to move shift lever out of Park position. Lever should be prevented from shifting out of Park.

b. With ignition switch in On position and brake pedal depressed, attempt to move shift lever out of Park position. Lever should now move freely out of Park.

c. If BTSI system does not operate as specified, refer to "Brake Transaxle Shift Interlock (BTSI) System" in this section for system diagnosis.
