Window Regulator Assembly

NOTE: This article has been updated with TSB# 94-T-53.
A design change was made to the front door side window regulator assembly installed on vehicles built after and including VIN SZ148736. Since the 2nd design regulator installs differently, the inner door panel has also been revised. This article describes the installation procedure to install a new 2nd design regulator into a 1st design door.


1. Remove inner and outer door trim panels.





2. Lower door glass.
Remove front side door window regulator nuts with tool SA9148B.
Push glass up and rotate slightly.
Remove door glass.

3. On vehicles equipped with a power front side door window regulator, disconnect electrical harness connector.

4. Remove front side door window regulator assembly cam bolts.
Drill out rivets and remove front side door window regulator assembly.





5. Place inner panel cam (rear of new front side door window regulator assembly) into opening in inner door panel, before riveting front side door window regulator assembly into place.

6. Position front side door window regulator assembly backplate to inner door panel and install rivets.





7. On the inside of the inner door panel, mark a horizontal line 15 mm (0.60 in.) above and 7 mm (0.28 in.) below existing hole in inner door panel.





8. Insert a china marker into the hole of the inner panel cam and using the inner panel cam as a compass, move the inner panel cam up and down, past the horizontal lines marked in step 7.





9. Using a 7 mm round file, slot existing hole up 15 mm (0.60 in.) to top line drawn in step 7, and down 7 mm (0.28 in.) to line drawn in step 7.

10. Apply BASF DP-90 2-K Primer or equivalent to bare metal.
Allow to dry according to manufacturer's recommendations.

11. Finger start bolt into inner panel cam.

12. On vehicles equipped with a power front side door window regulator assembly, connect electrical hamess connector.

13. Install glass and front side door window regulator nuts using tool SA9148B.

14. Align front door glass:
a. Loosen door glass guide bolts.
b. Lower the front door glass 25.4 mm (1 in.) from top of window frame.

c. With front door glass fully seated in the rear glass channel and the top edge of the front door glass parallel with the top of the window frame; snug, then tighten inner panel cam bolt.
Torque: 6 N.m (53 in.lbs.)

d. Lower front door glass to 76 mm (3 in.) from the top position.

e. With front door glass fully seated in the rear glass run channel, adjust the top of front door glass guide so that it is lightly seated against front edge of front door glass using light rearward pressure.

f. Snug top door glass guide bolt.
g. Lower front door glass to 51 mm (2 in.) from the full-down position.

h. Fully seat front door glass in the rear glass run channel.
Adjust the bottom of front door glass guide so that it is lightly seated against front edge of front door glass using light rearward pressure.

i. Snug bottom and middle door glass guide bolts.
j. Tighten door glass guide bolts.
Torque: 6 N.m (53 in.lbs.)

k. Cycle front door glass to verify proper aligN.ment.

15. Install inner and outer door trim panels.
