Disassemble

1. Remove torque converter.

2. Remove two converter housing to case bolts located behind torque converter.

3. Remove pressure filter, turbine speed sensor, vehicle speed sensor, temperature sensor and oil level indicator tube.

4. Remove valve body cover and gasket.

5. Remove 11 valve body attaching bolts, then remove valve body as an assembly.

6. Remove 2nd/reverse fork attaching bolt. Do not remove fork.

7. Using suitable punch, remove manual detent lever roll pin, ensuring pin does not enter transaxle.

8. Remove selector switch attaching bolts, then remove switch and manual detent lever.

9. Rotate transaxle assembly so converter housing is facing downward.

10. Remove rear cover attaching bolts, then lift cover straight upward until both tubes have cleared shafts to remove.

11. Install output shaft holding tool No. SA9119T, or equivalent, then drill two holes in bench top to align with top two transaxle to engine bolt holes, then install bolts through transaxle into holes.

12. Remove input shaft nut.




13. Remove holding tool, engage parking pawl to prevent output shaft rotation, then remove output shaft attaching nut.

14. Remove 1st clutch housing and 1st drive gear.




15. Remove 1st driven gear and sprag clutch from output shaft.




16. Remove forward/reverse servo piston cover attaching bolts, then remove cover, spring servo piston and shift fork.

17. Remove case to torque converter housing attaching bolt.




18. Using suitable screwdriver, pry case halves apart. It may be necessary to rock back and forth to break seal.

19. Remove case.




20. Lift input shaft, output shaft and differential assembly out of converter housing by grabbing end both shafts and an assistant lifting the differential, rotate shafts and differential while lifting. If input shaft, output shaft and differential assembly are not lifted together, damage to output shaft roller bearing inner race may occur.
