White Spots on Interior Garnish Molding(s) (Heat Garnish Molding(s) with Heat Gun to Remove White Spots)

MODELS AFFECTED:
1996 Saturns

CONDITION:

White spots appear on interior garnish molding(s)

CAUSE:

Interior garnish molding(s) are overstressed during removal and/or installation causing a stress or yield mark that gives a white appearance.

CORRECTION:

Perform the following procedure to remove stress or yield marks from interior garnish molding(s).

PROCEDURE:

NOTICE:
Use care not to damage interior components adjacent to interior garnish molding. Cover surrounding area to protect them from possible damage.

NOTICE:
Do not overheat area while removing stress or yield marks, or interior garnish molding may get a shiny surface.

Using a Snap-on(R) heat gun (or equivalent heat gun capable of obtaining 402° C [750° F]), in a slow circular motion, heat area of stress or yield marks on interior garnish molding until stress or yield mark is removed.
