Carpet - Exposed Edges at Door Openings

BULLETIN NO.: 99-T-03

ISSUE DATE: February, 1999

GROUP/SEQ. NO.: Body-O2

CORPORATION NO.: 99-08-110-011

SUBJECT:
Exposed Carpet Edges at Door Openings (Rep!ace Hinge Pillar Garnish Molding and/or Rear Side Door Opening Floor Carpet Retainer Assembly)

MODELS AFFECTED:
1996-1998 Saturn Sedans and Wagons built before and including VIN WZ101240

CONDITION:
Some customers may complain that the edges of the carpet are exposed at the door opening locations.

CAUSE:
Variations in carpet trim height and/or variations in carpet installation may cause the carpet to come out from behind the hinge pillar garnish molding assembly and/or rear side door opening floor carpet retainer assembly. Vehicles built after the above breakpoint have an additional 15 mm of material added to the bottom edge of the hinge pillar garnish molding assembly and rear side door opening floor carpet retainer assembly for better carpet coverage.

CORRECTION:
Replace the hinge pillar garnish molding assembly and/or the rear side door opening floor carpet retainer assembly in the area of the customer's complaint. (Refer to "Hinge Pillar Garnish/Sill Molding" or "Rear Carpet Retainer-Sedan/Wagon" procedure in the appropriate year Body/Repair Service Manual.)
