Door Window (Front) - Clunking Noise When Operated: Overview

SUBJECT:
Clunking Noise in Front Side Door When Windows are Operated
(Re-Install Bumper, Add Nuts or Replace Rivets as Required.)

Due to revisions under Models Affected, this bulletin supercedes bulletin 97-T-36, which should be discarded.

MODELS AFFECTED:
1996-1999 Saturn Sedans and Wagons.

CONDITION:
Customer may comment on one or more of the following conditions:

^ Window regulator makes a clunking noise when window travel reaches the full-down position.

^ Window regulator makes a clunking noise when operated in the up or down motion.

^ On vehicles equipped with power windows, window makes a clunking noise when the window reaches full-up position. This condition only happens when the window has an uninterrupted non-stop motion from the full-down position to the full-up position.

CAUSE:
The conditions may be caused by the following:

^ The front side door window stop bumper may have become dislodged from its retaining bracket or is missing.

^ The front side door window regulator attachment bolts may have become loose.

^ The front side door power window regulator motor attachment rivets may become loose.

CORRECTION:
Refer to the appropriate repair procedure in this bulletin, depending on condition, and repair vehicle.
