Procedure





1. Verify that the luggage compartment is wet or exhibits a musty mildew odor. Check for moisture under the rear floor compartment carpeting and at acoustic material at the outside rear corners.





2. Disengage hook-and-loop fasteners attaching rear compartment floor carpet-to-seat backs and remove rear compartment floor carpet.

3. Straighten out retaining tabs, release front hook-and-loop fastener attachments and remove rear compartment side wall trim.





4. Remove spare wheel and jack.

5. Lift acoustic material and separate from floor at glued locations.








6. Apply an unrestricted (no nozzle) water flow to the inside top of both the rear quarters and under where the rear compartment lid closes. (Refer to illustrations. Left side shown, right side similar.)





7. Inspect for leaks from the inside of quarter panel at areas shown in illustration. (Left side shown, right side similar.)

^ If a leak is detected in either of these areas, remove the quarter panel from the affected side, and proceed to next step, to pinpoint the exact location of the leak. (Refer to "Quarter Panel" removal procedure in the "Rear End" section of the appropriate year Body/Repair Service Manual.)

^ If no leak is detected, refer to "Waterleaks" in the "General Information" section of the appropriate year Body/Repair Service Manual.





8. Spray seams shown with a 50/50 mixture of soap and water.

CAUTION:
TO PREVENT EYE INJURY, SAFETY GLASSES MUST BE WORN WHEN USING COMPRESSED AIR.

9. Blow compressed air at the back of suspected seam (from inside luggage compartment) and watch for bubbles to appear at the leak location.

10. Mark leak location with a wax marker. Make sure to apply mark away from area where sealer is to be applied.

11. Clean area to be sealed with water, blow dry and wipe with a clean lint free cloth saturated in isopropyl alcohol.





12. Seal area of leak using Kent Industries High Tech Leak Chek (P/N 10105) or equivalent.

13. Watertest to verify repair.

14. Install quarter panel. (Refer to "Quarter Panel" installation procedure in the "Rear End" section of the appropriate year Body/Repair Service Manual.)

15. Apply hot melt glue (or equivalent) to rear floor pan. Align material to floor at jack bracket on right side and install rear floor acoustic material.

16. Install spare wheel and jack.





17. Install rear compartment side wall trim, engage front hook-and-loop fastener attachments.

18. Slide tab through trim panel and bend them over to secure trim panel.

19. Install rear compartment floor carpet and engage rear compartment floor carpet hook-and-loop fasteners to seat backs.
