Emissions - Extended Warranty for PCM Reprogramming
NO.: 04-I-08DATE: June, 2004
SUBJECT:
Warranty Coverage Change for Emission-Related Reprogramming Events
(PCM, ECM, and TCM) for All Models and All Model Years
TO: All Saturn Retailers
In the past, all reprogramming of vehicle controllers (powertrain control modules [PCM], engine control modules [ECM], and transmission control modules [TCM]) were covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty (3 years/36,000 miles [60,000 km]). Effective immediately, the coverage for emission-related reprogramming now has the same coverage as the controller under the emission warranty (8 years/80,000 miles [130,000 km]).
Reprogramming that is NOT emissions-related will continue to be covered for 3 years/36,000 miles (60,000 km).
Emissions-related calibrations will be announced through a Saturn Technical Service Bulletin with specific guidelines of coverage for each model affected. A special emission-related reprogramming labor operation has been developed. The labor operation to be used for claims relating to emission-related reprogramming is J6353 and will only be referenced in the bulletins addressing emission-related calibrations. This labor operation must NOT be used for non-emissions-related reprogramming.
Examples:
The PCM on 2004 model year vehicles is covered by the emission warranty for 8 years/80,000 miles (130,000 km). If Saturn released an emission-related calibration update for a vehicle, the reprogramming operation would also be covered for 8 years/80,000 miles (130,000 km).
If Saturn released a drivability-related calibration update (for example, to eliminate a hesitation condition) for a vehicle, the reprogramming operation would be covered for 3 years/36,000 miles (60,000 km).
