Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

REMOVAL

IMPORTANT: It may be necessary to remove chamfer (bevel) from edge of an 18 mm socket in order to get full socket engagement on thin headed flywheel bolts.

IMPORTANT: It is not necessary to orientate the flywheel to the crankshaft. It is balanced separately from the engine.

1. Remove flywheel attaching bolts. Use J-43653 to prevent crankshaft rotation.
2. Remove flywheel, if vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission.
3. Remove flywheel retainer and flywheel for vehicles equipped with automatic transmission.
4. Clean thread adhesive from flywheel bolts. Use a nylon bristle brush to clean bolt holes in crankshaft.
