Passenger Compartment Cross Beam: Service and Repair

BAR DASH PANEL CROSS CAR

REMOVAL




1. Remove dash insulator.
2. Remove front seats.
3. Remove carpet and insulation.
4. Protect windshield with a welding blanket.
5. Drill spot welds from end bracket of the bar assembly at attachment points to dash assembly.
6. Drill spot welds from pedal brackets. Remove bolts
7. Remove bar assembly from car.

INSTALLATION




1. Drill holes in new bar assembly for plug welds same amount and location as in removed part.
2. Install beam into proper position.
3. Reinstall bolts to help hold beam in place.

Torque:
Cross Car Beam-to-Body Bolts: 25 N.m (18 ft.lbs)


4. Plug weld bar into position.
5. Check for water leaks in cowl plenum after welding.
6. Install carpet and insulation.
7. Install front seats.
8. Install dash insulator.
