P1403
Diagnostic Chart:
Schematic:
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve consists of a pintle valve that moves by the use of an internal solenoid and an internal position sensor (potentiometer) used to determine pintle valve position. The PCM controls the solenoid by supplying it ignition voltage whenever exhaust gas needs to be recirculated into the intake manifold. The PCM monitors the EGR solenoid and position sensor circuits for correct voltage levels at certain times. DTC P1403 sets when the EGR solenoid is commanded On and the feedback voltage at the PCM is low.
DTC PARAMETERS
DTC P1403 will set if EGR solenoid voltage is less than 3.0 volts when EGR solenoid is commanded On.
DTC P1403 diagnostic runs continuously with engine running and EGR solenoid commanded On.
DTC P1403 is a type D DTC.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
To locate an intermittent problem, use Scan tool to command EGR SOLENOID On (PWM 100% duty cycle), while monitoring the EGR SOLENOID - LOW VOLT test. When a fault (short to ground or shorted solenoid) exists, the Scan tool will display TEST FAIL.
The test will fail only when the device is being commanded On and the voltage at the PCM is low. The test updates every 100 ms whenever the ignition is turned On and the device is being commanded On via the Scan tool or PCM.
EGR solenoid resistance: 7-11 ohms
