Labeling-Anti-Theft
Labeling - Anti-TheftImportant
The theft deterrent label found on some major exterior panels, engines, and transaxles must be masked prior to painting, rust proofing, undercoating, etc. The mask must be removed following the above operations. Failure to keep the label clean and readable may result in liability for violation of Federal Vehicle Theft Prevention Standard, and subject the vehicle owner to possible suspicion that the part was stolen.
Important
These labels are not to be defaced, removed, or covered over. The labels must be shielded from paint, rust proofing, and undercoating (Retailer preparations included).
Federal law requires Saturn to label certain parts, on selected vehicles, with the VIN. The purpose of the standard is to reduce the cases of motor vehicle thefts by helping in the tracing and recovery of parts from stolen vehicles.
The label will be permanently affixed to an interior surface of the part and will contain the complete VIN. The label on replacement parts will contain the letter "R", the manufacturers logo, and the symbol "DOT."
The parts involved are:
^ Front and Rear Fascia
^ Hood and Trunk Lid
^ Left and Right Front Fenders
^ Left and Right Doors
^ Left and Right Rear Quarters (Under Tail Lamp)
*Certification label on left door qualifies as a theft prevention label.
The label on replacement parts will not be in the same location as production parts. This location will differ according to part and car line.
