Starting Circuit Operation

The battery supplies voltage to the ignition switch (through UHFB) and starter motor at all times. When the ignition switch is in the START position, current travels to the starter solenoid on circuit 5 (clutch start switch on manual transaxle). The solenoid simultaneously connects battery voltage to the starter motor and engages the starter drive gear with flywheel to rotate engine crankshaft. The solenoid spring simultaneously disengages the starter drive gear and removes voltage from the starter motor when the ignition switch returns to the RUN position.
