Steering: Service Precautions

SIR PROCEDURE SIR DISABLE/ENABLE PROCEDURE (FOR FRONTAL INFLATORS)

CAUTION: WHEN YOU ARE PERFORMING SERVICE ON OR NEAR THE SIR COMPONENTS OR THE SIR WIRING, YOU MUST DISABLE THE SIR SYSTEM. REFER TO DISABLING THE SIR SYSTEM. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE CORRECT PROCEDURE COULD CAUSE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, PERSONAL INJURY, OR UNNECESSARY SIR SYSTEM REPAIRS.

DISABLING THE FRONTAL INFLATORS
1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn ignition switch to the OFF position and remove key.
3. Remove IGN 1 mini-fuse from under hood fuse block.
4. Remove lower left I/P closeout panel.





5. Push out clips that secure the driver and passenger inflator module (YEL 2-way) connectors to I/P panel brace.
6. Disconnect both (YEL 2-way) connectors.

ENABLING THE FRONTAL INFLATORS





1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointed straight ahead.
2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and remove key.
3. Connect both the driver and passenger inflator module (YEL 2-way) connectors.
4. Fasten clips on (YEL 2-way) connectors to I/P panel brace.
5. Install IGN I mini-fuse in under hood fuse block.
6. Turn ignition On and verify AIR BAG telltale operates properly.
7. Install lower left I/P closeout panel.
