Service Procedure

1. Open hood.





2. Locate transaxle shift cable adjuster assembly shown in illustrations.





3. Refer to illustrations and inspect transaxle shift cable retainer clip to ensure it is present and fully seated.

^ If transaxle shift cable retainer clip is present and fully seated, no further action is required. Continue to step 7.

^ If transaxle shift cable retainer clip is present but not fully seated, properly install clip until it is seated and continue to step 5,

^ If transaxle shift cable retainer clip is not present, continue to next step.

4. Inspect transaxle shift cable retaining tabs and determine if they are properly seated and engaged in mounting bracket.

^ If transaxle shift cable retaining tabs are properly seated and engaged in mounting bracket, obtain and install new transaxle shift cable retainer clip (P/N 90522787).

^ If transaxle shift cable retaining tabs are not properly seated and engaged in mounting bracket, align and seat two retaining tabs in mounting bracket. Then, obtain and install new transaxle shift cable retainer clip (P/N 90522787).

5. Ensure transaxle shifts properly and vehicle only starts with transaxle shift lever in "P" (Park) and "N" (Neutral) positions.





6. If it is necessary to adjust transaxle shift cable:

6.1 Place transaxle shift lever inside vehicle in "P" (Park) position.

6.2 Use a screwdriver, awl, or pick to lift adjustment lock tab on transaxle shift cable assembly.

6.3 Move underhood shift lever on transaxle to park position (position furthest away from front of dash area). There are detents inside transaxle that create a positive feel of each transaxle gear position. Ensure that transaxle detent is fully engaged in park position.

6.4 Press adjustment lock tab back down to original position.

6.5 Check transaxle shifting to verify proper operation.

IMPORTANT:
Do not cover any existing underhood labels when affixing Campaign Completion Label.

7. Affix Campaign Completion Label on a clean and dry surface of radiator core support, in an area clearly visible when hood is raised. (For more information, refer to "CAMPAIGN COMPLETION LABEL" in this bulletin.)
