Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Air System Diagnostics

During the AIR system diagnostic (DTC P0410) the PCM will use the heated oxygen sensor 1 (HO2S-1) to verify the AIR system is working. When certain operating parameters have been met (Refer to DTC P0410 - DTC Parameters for exact calibrations) the PCM will wait until a deceleration occurs and fix the air fuel ratio slightly rich. The PCM will then command the AIR system On and monitor the heated oxygen sensor 1 (HO2S-1) for a lean condition. Due to fresh air being pumped into the exhaust manifold, the oxygen sensor should indicate a lean or low voltage condition. If the PCM does not detect a certain lean HO2S-1 signal after a series of tests, DTC P0410 will set.

IMPORTANT: If a low or high voltage fault exists in the air pump relay/air pump solenoid circuit, the PCM will still run the P0410 diagnostic. The PCM will only illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) because the P0410 diagnostic failed on the second consecutive trip. The SERVICE telltale will be commanded On, during the first ignition cycle if a circuit fault is detected and DTC P1640 will be set.
