Driver or Passenger Seat Recliner Replacement
Removal Procedure
Important: LHD shown, RHD similar.
1. Remove the seat from the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket (Front Seat Replacement - Bucket).
2. Remove the recliner handle.
3. On SL2, SC2 and SW2 driver's seat, rotate the riser knob to the full down position and remove the riser knob.
4. Remove the seat adjuster side cover.
5. Remove the recliner lever and nylon spacer.
6. On the coupe passenger seat, remove the clip attaching the E-Z entry cable to the inboard recliner, and separate the cable from the recliner.
7. On SL2, SC2, SW2 driver's seat, remove the lumbar knob assembly.
1. Remove the lumbar knob retaining clip.
2. Remove the lumbar knob by pulling.
3. Remove the lumbar actuator fasteners.
4. Remove the lumbar actuator cable assembly by pushing rearward.
8. Thread the lumbar cable back above the riser bar to the side of the seat back.
9. Disengage the seat cushion cover rear J-strip at the bottom of the seat cushion frame. Refer to the following:
* Seat Cover (1)
* Cushion Frame (2)
* Foam Pad (3)
* Cross Tube (4)
* Seat Cover J-Strip (5)
10. On all of the passengers seats and the SL, SL1, SW1 and SC1 driver's seats, loosen the seat adjuster bolts to assist in removal of the seatbacks.
11. Remove the recliner bolts and remove the seat back assembly with the recliner mechanism and cross tube attached to the seat back.
12. Disengage the seat cushion cover J-strip at the bottom of the seat back cover and slide the seat back cover up to expose the recliner bolts.
13. Remove the recliner bolts and separate the recliner assemblies and the cross tube from the seat back assembly.
14. Separate the recliners from the cross tube and remove the recliner covers from the recliners.
Installation Procedure
Important: LHD shown, RHD similar.
1. Install the recliner covers to the recliners.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Assemble the recliner assemblies to the cross tube.
Tighten the front seatback cushion recliner bolts to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).
3. Install the recliners and cross tube assembly to the seat back with attaching bolts.
4. Pull the seat back cover down and engage the lower J-strips.
5. Install the seat back assembly to seat cushion assembly with attaching bolts.
Tighten the front seatback recliner bolts to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).
6. On the SL2, SC2, and SW2 driver's seats, install the lumbar knob assembly.
1. Thread the lumbar cable between the riser bar and seat cushion bottom toward the lumbar actuator plate.
2. Align the lumbar actuator cable assembly guide with the slot in the actuator plate.
3. Install the lumbar actuator fasteners.
Tighten the lumbar actuator fasteners to 3 Nm (27 lb in).
7. Align the grooves on the lumbar knob with the grooves on the lumbar actuator cable assembly and push to install.
8. Install the lumbar knob retaining clip.
9. Wrap the seat cushion cover rear flap to the cover up recliner cross tube and engage the seat cushion cover rear J-strip to the seat cushion frame.
10. If loosened in removal, tighten the seat adjuster bolts.
Tighten the front seat adjuster-to-seat bolts to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).
11. On the coupe passenger seat, attach the E-Z entry cable to the inboard recliner and install the cable retaining clip.
Caution: Apply Loctite 242(R) Threadlocker, or equivalent, on recliner lever fasteners before installing.
12. Install the recliner lever and nylon spacer.
Tighten the recliner lever fastener to 3 Nm (27 lb in).
13. Install the seat adjuster side cover.
Tighten the seat side cover fasteners to 2.5 Nm (22 lb in).
14. On the SL2, SC2 and SW2 driver's seat, install the seat cushion riser knob.
Tighten the seat riser knob fastener to 2.5 Nm (22 lb in).
15. Install the recliner handle.
Tighten the recliner handle fastener to 3 Nm (27 lb in).
16. Install the seat into the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket (Front Seat Replacement - Bucket).
