Instrument Panel (IP) - Removal Procedure

REMOVAL




1. Disable the SIR System.
2. Remove I/P top cover:
2.1 Remove screws located under upper trim panel on passenger's side of vehicle.

IMPORTANT: Be careful not to damage VIN plate when removing or replacing instrument panel upper trim.

2.2 Disengage clips at locations by grasping edges of upper trim panel and lifting up.
2.3 Disengage velcro pads from attachments at rear of upper trim panel by reaching under panel and lifting straight up.
2.4 Raise upper trim panel enough to clear VIN plate.

If Equipped:
3. Disable head curtain inflator module.
4. Apply parking brake lever.




5. Remove window/mirror switch, if equipped:
5.1 Exert pressure on rear with hand.
5.2 Using a small flat blade screwdriver, carefully lift switch.




5.3 Lift up and out
5.4 Disconnect electrical connectors by locating retention tabs and disengaging connectors.




6. Remove console:
6.1 Select neutral for transaxle gear (on automatic transaxles).
6.2 Adjust front seats to most forward position.
6.3 Remove rear console fasteners.




6.4 Adjust front seats to most rearward position.
6.5 Remove left and right lower trim panel extensions by pulling outward at dual lock locations.
6.6 Rotate panels outward to disengage hinges from console.




6.7 Remove front console fasteners.
6.8 Move console rearward.
6.9 Disengage retaining tabs and disconnect power outlet connector.




6.10 On automatic transaxle equipped vehicles, press and tape gear selector button in to clear shifter opening.
6.11 Maneuver console beyond gear selector and parking brake by lifting rear of console.
6.12 Remove console from vehicle.




7. Remove steering column filler panel fasteners.




8. Remove hood release cable from lever by releasing cable housing, then rotating cable downward to cutout.




9. For RHD hood release, remove hood release handle assembly screws.
10. Remove hood release handle assembly.
11. Remove steering column filler panel.
12. Remove data link connector.

NOTE: Do not remove weatherstrips. Adhesion will be lost if removed.




13. Remove left and right endcap assemblies.
13.1 Remove fasteners.
13.2 Carefully disengage clips at I/P retainer assembly locations. Use of a blunt tool will aid in disengaging clips.
13.3 Maneuver the assemblies past inner I/P retainer assembly and weatherstrips.
14. Remove wiring harness from doorjamb switch.




15. Remove dimmer/traction switch assembly:
15.1 Use blunt tool to pry and depress retaining tab on left side of switch housing.
15.2 Depress wiring connector tabs and remove harnesses from switch.




16. Gently pry edges of ignition lock bezel with a blunt tool and separate from lower shroud.




17. Remove fasteners and lower steering column shroud.
18. Lift and remove upper shroud from steering column.
19. Lower steering column by pushing down on steering column adjusting handle.




20. Remove I/P cluster bezel by disengaging clips from retainer assembly, grasping edges of bezel near clip locations and pulling outward.




21. Remove I/P cluster:
21.1 Remove fasteners.
21.2 Disconnect electrical connector from I/P cluster by squeezing tabs on each side of connector.




22. Remove radio:
22.1 Remove radio fasteners.
22.2 Pull radio out slightly to access rear.
22.3 Disconnect electrical connector, antenna, and ground strap connector.




23. Remove HVAC controller:
23.1 Remove fasteners.
23.2 Disconnect HVAC blower switch connector.
23.3 Disconnect HVAC control head connector.




23.4 Remove temperature cable by squeezing lock tabs together while pulling cable (coiled end) straight up beyond retaining tabs.
23.5 Remove mode cable by squeezing lock tabs together while pulling cable (coiled end) straight up beyond retaining tabs.




24. Disengage door jamb switch wiring harness retainer (metal clip). Remove left and right harnesses from I/P retainer assembly.




25. Disengage dimmer/traction control switch wiring harness from retainer assembly.




26. Remove steering column bolts and lower column on front seat.




27. Remove I/P compartment:
27.1 Open I/P compartment door.
27.2 Turn right and left I/P compartment door stop assemblies to release door and compartment assembly from I/P retainer assembly.

IMPORTANT: Lower I/P door pins are on the right and left outside edges at base of the compartment.

27.3 Push lower I/P door pins from the outside of the door to inside I/P compartment.




28. Remove fasteners and passenger's side inflatable restraint cover.




29. Disengage antenna lead.




30. Remove H-Brace to front floor bracket assembly bolts.




31. Passenger's side inflatable restraint:
31.1 Unclip plastic retainer and lift passenger side inflatable restraint harness from cowl support.




For RHD Domestic:
31.2 Remove clip from retaining assembly.




31.3 Remove fasteners located underneath passenger side inflatable restraint.
31.4 Pry retaining tabs outward that retain passenger side inflatable restraint to I/P retainer assembly.
31.5 Remove passenger side inflatable restraint from opening.




32. Remove I/P harness plastic retainer from H-Brace.
33. Remove fasteners and ground wires from H-Brace.
34. Remove radio ground strap from H-Brace.
35. Remove instrument panel fuse block (IPFB).

IMPORTANT: Use illustration to determine fastener location and direction of removal.




36. Remove I/P fasteners and nuts.

NOTE: Put I/P retainer assembly on a clean surface so the surface does not become damaged.

37. Remove I/P retainer assembly from vehicle.
