Output Driver Status (Table)

Displays NOT RUN, TEST FAIL or TEST PASS for each component circuit test. NOT RUN indicates the test has not run because the commanded state (either On or Off) needed to update the test has not been commanded by either the Scan tool or PCM. TEST FAIL indicates the last time the PCM ran that specific test, the voltage state detected was not correct. TEST PASS indicates the last time the PCM ran that specific test, the voltage state detected was correct.

LOW VOLT or OPEN tests for a LOW SIDE DRIVER: A low side driver means the PCM is using a driver to supply a ground for the component circuit to turn the device On. The LOW VOLT and OPEN tests will update when the device is being commanded Off by the Scan tool or PCM. At this time, the PCM should detect a high feedback voltage state (ignition voltage). If the PCM detects a low feedback voltage state, the Scan tool will display TEST FAIL. This test checks for an open or short to ground. The LOW VOLT and OPEN tests will display the same results because the PCM cannot detect the difference between an open or short to ground.

HIGH VOLT tests for a LOW SIDE DRIVER: A low side driver means the PCM is using a driver to supply a ground for the component circuit to turn the device On. The HIGH VOLT tests will update when the device is being commanded On by the Scan tool or PCM. At this time, the PCM should detect a low feedback voltage state. If the PCM detects a high feedback voltage state, the Scan tool will display TEST FAIL. This test checks for a short to voltage shorted solenoid OF PCM driver. If a short to voltage or shorted solenoid condition exists, the PCM will open the driver circuit for protection and the feedback voltage state will be high.

LOW VOLT test for a HIGH SIDE DRIVER: A high side driver means the PCM is using a driver to supply ignition voltage to the component circuit to turn the device On. The LOW VOLT tests will update when the device is being commanded On by the Scan tool or PCM. At this time, the PCM should detect a high feedback voltage state (ignition voltage). If the PCM detects a low feedback voltage state, the Scan tool will display TEST FAIL. This test checks for a short to ground, shorted solenoid or open PCM driver. If a short to ground or shorted solenoid condition exists, the PCM will open the driver circuit for protection and the voltage feedback state will be low.

OPEN or HIGH VOLT tests for a HIGH SIDE DRIVER: A high side driver means the PCM is using a driver to supply ignition voltage to the component circuit to turn the device On. The OPEN and HIGH VOLT tests will update when the device is being commanded Off by the Scan tool or PCM. At this time the PCM should detect a low feedback voltage state. If the PCM detects a high feedback voltage state, the Scan tool will display TEST FAIL. This test checks for an open or short to voltage. The OPEN and HIGH VOLT tests will display the same results because the PCM cannot detect the difference between an open or short to voltage.

Each test updates every 100 ms.

IMPORTANT: When a device is being Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) the LOW VOLT, OPEN and HIGH VOLT test will be updated.
