Manual Shift Shaft Assembly

MANUAL SHIFT SHAFT ASSEMBLY (ON-VEHICLE) REMOVAL





1. Remove the valve body cover and valve body.

NOTICE: If manual shift shaft is rotated excessively, internal damage to the transaxle range switch may occur.

2. Prevent the manual shift shaft from rotating by holding control lever.

IMPORTANT: When removing the inner nut, take care not to drop the nut into the transaxle by placing a rag under the nut to catch it, if it is accidentally dropped.





3. Remove the manual shift shaft assembly inner nut, manual valve link, park pawl lever, and manual detent lever.





4. Remove the two transaxle range switch bolts and disconnect the electrical connectors.
5. Slide the transaxle range switch and the manual shift shaft assembly out of the transaxle case.





6. Place the manual shift shaft assembly in a soft jaw vise and remove the outer lever nut, lever, and transaxle range switch.

INSTALLATION
1. Place the manual shift shaft assembly in a soft jaw vise and install transaxle range switch, control lever, and control lever nut.
Torque:
Transaxle Control Lever-to-Manual Detent Shaft Nut: 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.)





2. Slide the manual shift shaft assembly into the transaxle case.





3. Install the manual detent lever, manual valve link, and park pawl lever.
4. With a pair of pliers, hold the control lever to prevent the manual detent lever shaft from turning and install the manual detent lever shaft inner nut.

NOTICE: If manual shift shaft is rotated excessively, internal damage to the transaxle range switch may occur.

5. Prevent the manual shift shaft from rotating by holding control lever and install the manual shift shaft inner nut.

IMPORTANT: When installing the inner nut, take care not to drop the nut into the transaxle by placing a rag under the nut to catch it, if it is accidentally dropped.

Torque:
Manual Detent Lever-to-Manual Detent Shaft Nut: 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.)
6. Install neutral safety/selector switch bolts, connect electrical connectors and follow the transaxle range switch adjustment procedures.





7. Install valve body.
