Ignition Control Module: Service and Repair

ELECTRONIC IGNITION (El) MODULE

TOOLS REQUIRED
- J45482 Debris Screen

REMOVAL





1. Lift and support intake manifold.
2. With support, install Debris Screen J45482.





3. Disconnect EI module harness connector.

IMPORTANT: To avoid getting water and debris into the spark plug holes, use compressed air and shop rag to blow off the ignition module before the assembly is removed.

IMPORTANT: Bolts can be screwed into the ignition module to aid when removing the module from the cylinder head.

4. Remove ignition module attachment bolts.
5. Remove ignition module housing assembly with spark plug boots.
6. Remove ignition module assembly gasket if it does not come out with module.

INSTALLATION
1. Install gasket to ignition module.
2. Apply dielectric compound to spark plug boots and make sure no corrosion is present.
3. Install ignition module housing assembly with spark plug boots into position.
Torque:
Ignition Module Bolts: 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)
4. Connect El module harness connector. Push in connector until locking position is felt, then pull back to confirm engagement.
5. Remove Debris Screen J45482.
6. Install intake manifold assembly.
7. Connect negative battery cable.
Torque:
Battery Terminal Bolts: 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.)
