48. Side Cover/Gaskets, Disassemble, Assemble, Install

SIDE COVER/GASKETS, DISASSEMBLE, ASSEMBLE, INSTALL





1. Remove side cover gaskets and thrust washer from side cover.

NOTICE: Do not score or damage side cover bore.





2. Remove side cover axle seal. Use handle end of a hammer.





3. Inspect side cover for cracks or damage to seal grooves and mounting bosses.
4. Inspect side cover seals for damage. Side cover seals are reusable if not damaged.
5. Thoroughly clean side cover and side cover seals.
6. Clean and dry seal grooves and axle seal bore.
7. Install side cover gaskets into grooves on side cover.
8. Retain seals with petroleum jelly.
9. Install side cover to driven sprocket support thrust washer onto side cover.
10. Retain thrust washer with petroleum jelly.





11. Install side cover assembly onto transaxle case.

IMPORTANT: Install side cover studs into their original locations noted during disassembly.

12. Install side cover fasteners.
Torque:
Side Cover-to-Transaxle Case Bolts: 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)
