Oil Pump: Service and Repair

OIL PUMP PIPE AND SCREEN ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT- L81

REMOVAL

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED. MAKE SURE HOIST DOES NOT CONTACT FUEL OR BRAKE LINES.

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Drain engine oil.





3. Remove oil pan bolts.
4. Remove oil pan.





5. Remove oil intake pipe bolts.
6. Remove oil intake pipe.
7. Remove oil intake pipe O-ring.
8. Clean gasket surfaces.

INSTALLATION





1. Install oil pump pipe O-ring.
2. Install oil pump pipe.
3. Install oil pump pipe bolts.
Torque:
Oil Pickup Tube Bolts - L81: 8 N.m (71 inch lbs.)





IMPORTANT: Refer to "Oil Pan Replacement". Application of RTV and oil pan alignment is critical.

4. Install the oil pan.
5. Cower the vehicle.
6. Refill engine with 4.73L (5 qt.) of oil.
7. Start vehicle and inspect for leaks and correct oil pressure.
