Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Service and Repair

ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Loosen the radiator drain plug and drain the coolant 1 liter below the level of the coolant in the coolant surge tank, using a drain pan.
2. Tighten the drain plug.




3. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor harness connector.
4. Remove the ECT sensor.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Apply RTV sealant, or equivalent, to the sensor threads.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the ECT sensor.

Tighten the engine coolant temperature sensor to 18 N.m (13 lb ft).




3. Connect the ECT sensor harness connector. Push the connector in until the lock position is felt, then pull back to confirm engagement.
4. Refill the cooling system to the proper level. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
