Ignition Coil: Service and Repair



Ignition Coil Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the intake manifold cover.
2. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold.




3. Disconnect the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector (1).
4. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector (2).




5. Disconnect the left side spark plug wires from the ignition coil.




6. Disconnect the right side spark plug wires from the ignition coil.




7. Remove the upper left coil mount bracket bolt (1).
8. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
9. Disconnect the wire retainers on the ignition coil bracket.
10. Remove the remaining bolt (1) and the two nuts (2) on the coil bracket.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Remove the ignition coil bracket assembly.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the ignition coil (3).
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Install the upper right coil mount bolt.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

4. Install the coil mount nuts.

Tighten the nuts to 25 N.m (15 lb ft).

5. Connect the wire retainers to the coil bracket.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Install the upper left coil mount bolt.

Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (15 lb ft).




8. Connect the right side spark plug wires to the ignition coil.




9. Connect the left side spark plug wires to the ignition coil.




10. Connect the ignition coil electrical connector (2).
11. Connect the MAP sensor electrical connector (1).




12. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the intake manifold.
13. Install the intake manifold cover.
