Removal






WINDOW / GLASS: WINDSHIELD GLASS: REMOVAL; 2013 MY FR-S [03/2012 -]

1. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM COVER Removal

2. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY LH Removal

3. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY RH Removal

4. REMOVE FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL RH Removal

5. REMOVE FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL LH

HINT
Use the same procedure as for the RH side.

6. REMOVE COWL VENTILATOR LOUVER Removal

7. REMOVE ROOF HEADLINING ASSEMBLY

HINT
It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining. Slightly lower the front section of the roof headlining so that the windshield glass can be removed in a later step. Refer to the following procedures Removal.

8. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS

(a) Apply protective tape to the installation position of the windshield glass on the vehicle body.









HINT
Apply protective tape to the area around installation surface to prevent it from being scratched.

(b) Using a knife, cut off the windshield outside moulding, as shown in the illustration.









CAUTION:
* Do not damage the vehicle body with the knife.
* If the vehicle body is damaged, repair the damaged portion by applying an anti-rust coating after removing the windshield glass.
(c) Place matchmarks on the windshield glass and vehicle body on the locations indicated in the illustration.









HINT
Matchmarks are not necessary if the windshield glass is not going to be reused.

(d) Pass a piano wire between the vehicle body and windshield glass from the interior, as shown in the illustration.









(e) Tie both wire ends to wooden blocks or similar objects that can serve as handles.

(f) Cut off the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around the windshield glass.

NOTICE:
* When separating the windshield glass, be careful not to damage the paint or interior and exterior ornaments.
* To prevent the safety pad from being scratched when removing the windshield glass, place a plastic sheet between the piano wire and safety pad.
* Do not damage the windshield glass.

(g) Using suction cups, disengage the windshield glass stopper and remove the windshield glass.









NOTICE:
* There are windshield glass stopper on the windshield glass, as shown in the illustration. Be careful not to damage the windshield glass stopper when cutting off the adhesive.
* To prevent the windshield glass from dropping when performing this operation, be sure to hold the windshield glass using suction cups.

9. REMOVE WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE DAM

(a) When reusing the windshield glass:

(1) Using a scraper, remove the window glass adhesive dam.









NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
* Be sure to replace the window glass adhesive dam with a new one.

10. REMOVE LOWER WINDSHIELD GLASS SEAL

(a) When reusing the windshield glass:

(1) Using a scraper, remove the 2 lower windshield glass seals.









NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
* Be sure to replace the lower windshield glass seal with a new one.

11. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING

(a) When reusing the windshield glass:

(1) Using a scraper, remove the windshield outside moulding with the upper windshield glass seal.









NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
* Be sure to replace the windshield outside moulding with a new one.

12. REMOVE UPPER WINDSHIELD GLASS SEAL

NOTICE:
Be sure to replace the upper windshield glass seal with a new one.

13. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER

(a) When reusing the windshield glass:

(1) Using a scraper, remove the No. 1 windshield glass stopper.









NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
* Be sure to replace the NO. 1windshield glass stopper with a new one.

14. REMOVE NO. 2 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER

HINT
Use the same procedure as for the No. 1 windshield glass stopper.

15. CLEAN WINDSHIELD GLASS

(a) When reusing the windshield glass:

(1) Using a scraper, remove the adhesive tape and adhesive sticking to the windshield glass.





NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

(2) Clean the outer circumference of the windshield glass with a non-residue solvent.

NOTICE:
* Do not touch the windshield glass surface after cleaning it.
* Even if using a new windshield glass, clean the windshield glass with a non-residue solvent.

16. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY

(a) Clean and shape the contact surfaces of the vehicle body.

(1) Using a knife, cut away excess adhesive on the contact surfaces of the vehicle body, as shown in the illustration.

NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

HINT
Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible.









Standard Dimension:





(2) Clean the contact surfaces of the vehicle body with a piece of cloth saturated with cleaner.

HINT
Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.
