The two service valve caps used on 1983 line installed air conditioners and SOA 204 083 (Hitachi) air conditioners up until compressor serial number 2120000, use different type seals..

The service valve cap used on the discharge (high pressure) service valve uses an O-ring type seal. The service valve cap used on the suction (low pressure) service valve uses a wafer type seal. See Figure 1.
If these two caps are reversed, the wafer type seal may depress the discharge valve, causing the system to discharge.
Beginning with compressor serial number 2120001, all service valve caps will use an O-ring type seal. Service valve caps having an O-ring seal can be used on either the discharge (high pressure) or suction (low pressure) service valves.
