APPLICABILITY SPI EQUIPPED VEHICLES DATE 04-02-86
SUBJECT: IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT
THERE IS AN ERROR CONCERNING THE SPI IDLE ADJUSTMENT IN THE 1986 SERVICE MANUAL SECTION 2-7, PAGE 10. THE IDLE SPECIFICATION OF 600 +/- 50 IS INCORRECT. THE CORRECT SPECIFICATION IS 550 +/- 50 WITH THE AIR CONTROL VALVE DISCONNECTED. THE PROCEDURE IS OUTLINED BELOW FOR CLARIFICATION.

Correct Idle Adjustment Procedure:
1) Disconnect Air Control Valve Harness at Throttle Chamber assembly. (See Figure 1)

2) Check RPMadjust IAS to obtain idle of 550 +/- 50 RPM. (See Figure 2)
NOTE: If RPM is below 500 and cannot be adjusted, the problem may be with Throttle Chamber. See section 2-7, page 44, No. 4.
3) Reconnect Air Control Valve Harness at Throttle Chamber and ensure engine idles at 700 +/- 100 RPM.
4) If engine idling speed is less than 600 RPM the connector has faulty contact or the harness is broken.
