Jump Starting/Quick Charging - Precautions

NUMBER

DATE

APPLICABILITY
PASSIVE BELT EQUIPPED MODELS

SUBJECT:
JUMP STARTING AND QUICK CHARGING

THIS BULLETIN IS FOR INFORMATION ONLY

If it is necessary to jump start a Subaru vehicle equipped with passive belts, it is essential that the following precautions are taken to prevent damage to the Passive Belt Control Unit.

a. If jump starting using another battery and vehicle, make sure that the engine rpm is returned to idle on both vehicles before removing the jumper cables. This will minimize charging current from the alternators which could affect the P/B control units.

b. If using a quick charge unit, do not open or close the doors while the charger is attached.

Never exceed 16 volts when jump starting or charging a battery installed in a P/B equipped vehicle.

The recommended method for charging the battery in a P/B equipped vehicle is to disconnect the vehicle battery cables prior to connecting the charger leads.

After jump starting or quick charging a P/B equipped vehicle, always verify the proper operation of the passive belts.
