Oil Level Check

The oil used to lubricate the compressor circulates in the system with the refrigerant gas while the compressor is engaged. If a considerable amount of refrigerant gas is lost, the oil charge in the system will have to be checked. To check the oil level, proceed as follows:
1. Open all doors, then start and run engine at 800-1500 RPM.
2. Set Temperature switch to 65°F (max. cold), then DEF switch to On position.
3. Set Fan switch to Hi position.
4. Operate engine for approximately 20 minutes to return oil to the compressor.
5. Stop engine, then slowly discharge refrigerant from system.
6. Remove compressor from vehicle, then drain oil from drain plug port.

Fig. 9 Oil Charge Table:

7. Refer to Fig. 9 for amount of oil to be added or removed. If replacing the compressor, drain oil completely from new compressor, then add same amount as drain from old compressor.
8. If adding oil to the compressor, pour premeasured oil into drain plug port of the compressor with the aid of a funnel.
9. Install compressor, then evacuate and recharge air conditioning system to specifications.
