Wheel Speed Sensor: Testing and Inspection

1. Check pole piece of speed sensor for damage or foreign materials. Clean or replace as needed.

Speed Sensor Specification:

2. Measure resistance between control module terminals. Refer to Fig. 14 for terminal identification and resistance specifications. If resistance is not within specifications replace wheel sensor or adjust gap between sensor and tone wheel.

Tone Wheel & Hub Clearance Measurement:

3. Check tone wheels teeth for cracks or dents. Replace if needed.
4. Clearances, Fig. 15, (sensor gaps) should be measured one at a time to ensure tone wheel and speed sensor are installed properly. Clearances should be as follows:
a. Front, .039-.059 inch.
b. Rear, .031-.051 inch.
5. If clearance is narrow, adjust by using spacer P/N 26755AA000.
6. If clearance is wide, check outputted voltage as outlined in step 7. If outputted is not within specifications, replace sensor or tone wheel.

Output Voltage Connection And Specification:

7. Output voltage can be checked by installing resistor and condenser as shown in Fig. 16, then rotating wheel at 1.7 mph.
