Wheel Speed Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Fig. 34 Speed Sensor Specification Chart:

1. Check pole piece of speed sensor for damage or foreign materials. Clean or replace as needed.
2. Measure resistance between speed sensor terminals. Refer to Fig. 34 for specifications. If resistance is not within specifications replace wheel sensor or adjust gap between sensor and tone wheel.
3. Check tone wheels teeth for cracks or dents. Replace if needed.
4. Clearances should be measured one at a time to ensure tone wheel and speed sensor are installed properly. Clearances are as follow:
a. Front 0.028-0.039 inch.
b. Rear 0.020-0.039 inch.

5. If clearance is narrow, adjust by using spacer P/N 26755AA000. If clearance is to wide check output voltage, replace speed sensor or tone wheel if output voltage is not within specifications. Refer to Fig. 35.
6. Output voltage can be checked by installing resistor and condenser as shown in Fig. 36, then rotating wheel at 1.7 mph.
