If you experience a 2000MY or later Subaru with an inoperative cruise control, check the operation of the Main switch first. The indicator light should come on when the switch is engaged and off when either the switch or is shut off the ignition. If the indicator light goes out when trying to use the 'SET' lever, try replacing the cruise control actuator. The Subaru has had 3 cars repaired with this condition by replacing the actuator assembly.
