Ignition Timing: Adjustments

- Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
- Make sure that all of electrical loads except ignition are switched off.
- Check to be sure that idle speed is within specification.
- Set timing light to No. 1 high tension cord.

Plugging Fuel Filter:





- Disconnect vacuum hose at gas filter on intake manifold and plug gas filter.

Timing Marks:





- Using timing light, check that timing is within specification.

INITIAL TIMING (Disconnected vacuum lines)
M/T 6° ± 1° BTDC at 750 ± 50 rpm
A/T 6° ± 1° BTDC at 850 ± 50 rpm

ADVANCED TIMING (Connected vacuum lines)
M/T 12° ± 1° BTDC at 750 ± 50 rpm
A/T 12° ± 1° BTDC at 850 ± 50 rpm

IGNITION ORDER
1 - 3 - 4 - 2

Adjusting Ignition Timing:





- If ignition timing is out of specification, loosen flange bolts, adjust timing by turning, distributor assembly while engine is running, and then tighten bolts.
- After tightening distributor flange bolts, recheck that ignition timing is within specification.

TIGHTENING TORQUE
10-16 N.m (1.0-1.6 kg-m, 7.0-11.5 lb-ft)

- After checking and/or adjusting, reconnect vacuum hose(s).
