Air Conditioning

AIR CONDITIONING

CAUTION:
The Air Conditioning System in this model uses a newer type of refrigerant called BFC 134a, or R134a. This new type of refrigerant, along with its related Compressor Oil and component parts, are not interchangeable between the two types of A/C systems: HFC-134a (R134a) and R-12. Be sure to check which refrigerant is used before performing any service work, including inspection and maintenance. (For identification between the two systems, refer to the diagram.) Before adding or replacing the Compressor Oil, recharging the system, or replacing component parts, be am that these parts are appropriate for the A/C system that is installed on the vehicle. Using inappropriate parts will result in leakage of refrigerant, damage to component parts, or other faulty conditions.

NOTE:
The A/C Solenoid Vacuum Valve is installed in vehicles equipped with an Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) only. It is not installed in vehicles equipped with an Idle Speed Control (ISC) motor.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Identification of the installed A/C System
The type of A/C System can be identified by checking the following three areas:

1. A/C Caution Plate, located under the hood on the Engine Hood Lock Member.

2. Identification label on the A/C Compressor.

3. Shape of the Service (Charge) Valves.
