Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Remove brake drum.
2. Check the color of ring for reinstallation.
NOTE: Color ring on brake cable is for the purpose of identification.
3. Disconnect parking brake cable from brake shoe lever.
4. Disconnect brake cable from brake back plate.
NOTE: When it is necessary to remove both right and left parking brake cables, repeat above steps for the other side of the vehicle.
5. Remove cable from parking brake lever.
INSTALLATION
Install parts in reverse order of removal procedure, noting the following.
1. Install brake cable stopper ring to brake back plate securely as shown in figure.
NOTE: Color ring on brake cable is for the purpose of identification. Use cable with the same colored ring as before removal.
2. Install brake cable spring and nipple end to parking brake shoe lever securely as shown in figure.
3. Install brake shoe assembly and drum.
4. For proper routing and secure clamping of parking brake cable.
5. Install cable to parking brake lever.
6. Upon completion of installation, adjust cable. Then check brake drum for dragging and brake system for proper performance. After removing vehicle from hoist, brake test should be performed.
