Engine: Service and Repair
1. Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under Technician Safety Information.2. Disconnect and remove battery, then mark hood for reference and remove hood.
3. Drain engine oil and coolant.
4. Remove radiator fan, fan shroud and cooling fan.
5. Disconnect accelerator cable.
6. On models with automatic transmission, disconnect throttle cable.
7. Remove strut tower bar.
8. Remove air intake pipe with hoses, then disconnect accelerator cable and transmission throttle cable from throttle body.
9. Remove electrical harness connectors.
10. Remove fuel feed and return lines.
11. Remove heater hoses from heater core.
12. Remove EVAP canister hose and brake booster vacuum hose.
13. Remove MAP sensor hose.
14. On models with power steering, disconnect power steering pump with hoses attached and position aside.
15. On models with A/C, disconnect A/C compressor with bracket attached and position aside.
16. Raise and support vehicle.
17. Remove transfer case as outlined under Transfer Case.
18. Remove exhaust pipe.
19. Remove righthand transmission stiffener and transmission fluid hose clamp bolt, if equipped.
20. Remove clutch housing lower plate.
21. On models with automatic transmission, remove torque converter bolts.
22. Lower vehicle and remove starter motor.
23. Raise and support vehicle, then support transmission using a suitable jack.
24. Loosen bolts securing engine to transmission.
25. Install a suitable lifting device, then remove right and left engine mounting bracket bolts.
26. Remove engine assembly from chassis and transmission by sliding towards front, then carefully hoisting from vehicle.
27. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification.
b. Adjust water pump, power steering pump and A/C compressor drive belt tension.
c. Adjust accelerator and transmission throttle cable play.
