Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair




Removal (HO2S-2 with WU-TWC and HO2S-1)

WARNING: To avoid danger of being burned, do not touch exhaust system when system is hot. Oxygen sensor removal should be performed when system is cool.

1. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
2. Remove connector from bracket and disconnect coupler of oxygen sensor.
3. Remove exhaust manifold upper cover if necessary.
4. Hoist vehicle when removing sensor - 2.
5. Remove oxygen sensor from exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe.

CAUTION: Be careful not to expose it to excessive shock. It may cause damage to sensor inside.

Installation (HO2S-2 with WU-TWC and HO2S-1)
Reverse removal procedure noting the following.
- Tighten oxygen sensor to specified torque.

Tightening Torque
(a): 45 Nm (4.5 kg.m, 32.5 lb.ft)

- Connect coupler of oxygen sensor and fit connector to bracket.
- After installing oxygen sensor, start engine and check that no exhaust gas leakage exists.




Removal (HO2S-2 without WU-TWC)

WARNING: To avoid danger of being burned, do not touch exhaust system when system is hot. Oxygen sensor removal should be performed when system is cool.

1. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
2. Remove driver's seat.
3. Remove front left side sill scuff and turn over floor carpet if necessary.
4. Disconnect connector of HO2S-2.
5. Hoist vehicle.
6. Remove oxygen sensor from exhaust pipe.

CAUTION: Be careful not to expose it to excessive shock. It may cause damage to sensor inside.

Installation
Reverse removal procedure noting the following.
- Tighten oxygen sensor to specified torque.

Tightening Torque
(a): 45 Nm (4.5 kg.m, 32.5 lb.ft)

- Fit harness grommet to floor securely and connect connector securely.
- After installing oxygen sensor, start engine and check that no exhaust gas leakage exists.
