Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair

Parking Brake Cable Removal
1. Release the parking brake.
2. Remove the parking brake/gearshift console hood.





3. Measure the thread length from the end of the pull rod to the hex nut and remove the nut.





4. Remove the parking brake cable ends from the parking brake cable rod and remove the parking brake cable rod.





5. Remove the parking brake cable from the rear backing plate assembly.





6. Remove the nuts and bolts securing the parking brake cable to the holding brackets, attached to the under body near the fuel tank.





7. Remove the parking brake cable.

Parking Brake Cable Installation





1. Install the parking brake cable to the rear backing plate as assembly.








2. Remove the nuts and bolts securing the parking brake cable to the holding brackets, attached to the under body near the fuel tank.
Tighten: Tighten the parking brake cable bracket securing bolts and nuts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the parking brake cable rod and the parking brake cable ends to the parking brake cable rod.
4. Install the parking brake adjustment nut to the eye bolt pull rod of the parking brake lever assembly and be sure to check the parking brake adjustment by referring to the original removal adjustment nut measurement taken in the removal procedure.





5. Install the parking brake/gearshift console hood.
