NOTE:
The original version of this TSB was mailed to the dealers with VIN information included. The VIN information is not included with this TSB. Owner's with affected vehicles will be notified via mail.
CONDITION:
If the driver does not turn the ignition switch to the 'LOCK' position, the vehicle can be started and operated without the key even if the remote controller has been removed from the vehicle.
CAUSE:
Once the keyless start system recognizes that the correct remote controller is in the vehicle, this is the same as having a key in the ignition switch. This is normal operation of the keyless start system. After the ignition switch is turned from the "LOCK" position to the "ACC", "ON", or "START" positions, the ignition switch can be turned to any position until it is returned to the "LOCK" position and the controller removed from the vehicle. Again, this is normal operation, just like having a key in the ignition switch.
CORRECTION:
Install the hang tag onto the windshield wiper control stock (see illustration) and place the owner's manual supplement into the glove box of all affected vehicles in your dealership inventory. Refer to the VIN list for your dealers specific VIN's. A hang tag and owner's manual supplement has been included with this bulletin for each of these vehicles. See owner's manual supplement sample (Attachment A), keyless start hang tag sample (Attachment B) and VIN list of affected vehicles.
ASMC will notify owners of this supplemental information by mail; see the owner letter. If a Grand Vitara owner should contact your dealership for assistance, please take the appropriate action to provide the best possible customer service.
