Fuel Tank Purging Procedure

Fuel Tank Removal and Installation

WARNING:

There is an increased risk of personal injury and fire if proper precautions are not taken when purging the fuel tank.

After purging the fuel tank, do not try to repair the fuel tank using heat or flame. Because the purging procedure below cannot remove the fuel vapor in the fuel tank completely, heat or flame may cause the remaining fuel vapor to explode, causing personal injury.

The following procedure are used for purging fuel tank.
1) After removing fuel tank, remove all hoses, pipes and fuel pump assembly from fuel tank.
2) Drain all remaining fuel from tank.
3) Place fuel tank to flushing area.
4) Fill tank with warm water or tap water, and agitate vigorously and drain. Repeat this washing until inside of tank is clean. Replace tank if its inside is rusty.
5) Completely flush out remaining water after washing.

NOTE:
If water remains in the fuel tank after washing, it may cause corrosion inside the fuel tank.

Thoroughly dry the fuel tank after washing.

6) Be sure to dry fuel tank assembly thoroughly out of direct sunlight after washing.
