SUBJECT: Throttle Position Sensor Check

Commonly used abbreviations, and their meanings

ECT - Electronic controlled transmission
DC - Diagnostic terminal





1. Connect the positive terminal of a voltmeter to the ECT (DC) terminal in the engine compartment, and the negative terminal to the body ground. (See Figure 1)

2. Set the voltmeter to the 10V range. If 10V range is not available, to next highest one.

3. Turn ignition switch to "on" (Do not start engine)




4. Check the voltage at the ECT (DC) terminal while slowly depressing the accelerator pedal from the fully closed position, to the fully open position. The voltage must change, from 0V to 8V in stages. (See Figure 2)

5. Using a low-impedance tester may result in lower voltage reading.
